The Moderating Effect of Stress Coping Strategy in the Relation Between Adult Attachment and Depression

Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to examine the influence of adult attachment and stress coping strategy on the depression. 428 adults completed the questionnaires measuring The Experiences in Close Relationships Scale-revised(ECR-R), Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), Coping Strategy Indicator(K-CSI). The data based on questionnaires were analyzed by using correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis to see the moderating effect in the relation between adult attachment and depression. The results of the study suggest as follows: First, problem-solving, social support seeking, avoidance coping strategy moderated the relation between avoidance attachment and depression. Second, problem-solving, social support seeking coping strategy moderated the relation between anxiety attachment and depression. These results mean that using specific coping strategy properly can alleviate the level of depression and provide the foundation of therapeutic intervention for depression. Lastly, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
